30 May to 21 August 2016
The highlight of the anniversary year will be the presentation of an excetional core piece from the Käthe Kollwitz Museum’s collection, which is being exhibited outside of Cologne in its entirety for the first time. It offers a glimpse of Kollwitz’ private life and of her workshop while her children were growing up, during her prime and at the peak of her success. During this period, her son, Hans, survived a life-threatening illness, and she grappled with the hardslips of absence and death. Suffused with tenderness and intense emotion, these pieces are among the most important of Käthe Kollwitz’s works. The chance to display these works is an anniversary gift from the museum in Cologne to its younger sister in Berlin, founded one year later. Both museums have cooperated since their founding.
