Photography and Film Exhibition by Lorenz Kienzle and Omar Akahare
27 February to 1 May 2017
Photography and accompanying texts by Lorenz Kienzle
Accompanying film One Year Home by Omar Akahare
This project began under the title ‘One Day as a Refugee’ in autumn 2015 and was intended as a short-term project. The encounters in the refugee home in Guben, on the German-Polish border, and in the temporary accommodation in Lietzen on the edge of the Oderbruch were intense from the very beginning – both for photographer Lorenz Kienzle and the refugees on site. A single day slowly became a whole year and resulted in an ambitious long-term project.
Kienzle was joined by young Syrian filmmaker Omar Akahare, who accompanied the analog photographer with his film camera. Using the media of photography and film, both artists made it their task to explore the development of the daily lives of these individuals in Guben and Lietzen. The exhibition at the Käthe Kollwitz Museum in Berlin is the first time that One Year Home is being shared with the public.
