Kunstmuseum zur deutschen Künstlerin Käthe Kollwitz
In Dialogue with Käthe Kollwitz
Carver Gottfried Reichel
14 November 2016 to 15 January 2017
Talent is a duty – with these words of Käthe Kollwitz carver Gottfried Reichel made figures of wood over sixty years. These figures, carved from lime wood, are the legacy of him. Gottfried Reichel came from Pobershau in the Erzgebirge region in Saxony. He found his life’s purpose in making carvings for peace, for humanity, and as a means of commemoration. Käthe Kollwitz and Ernst Barlach served as examples for him.
He created over 400 carvings, which were not for sale. In Pobershau there is a museum for his work, called “Die Hütte”. Some of his figures are now being shown in Berlin for the first time.
Gottfried Reichel died on 2 October 2015, this exhibition was talked with him before.
